Measuring for window blinds couldn’t be any simpler with our step by step guide.

Please Note:

  • Always use a metal rule when taking the measurements. Cloth ones can give inaccurate measurements.
  • All our blinds are made with a 5 mm manufacturing tolerance (width & height).
  • All measurements should be provided in cm. Measure to the nearest millimetre.
  • Look out for the position of window handles and tiles.
Decide where you want to mount your blinds:

How you measure depends on where you want your blind to go. It can be mounted:
  • On the outside your window – on the wall (face fixing) or the ceiling (top fixing).
  • On the inside of your window – top fixing bracket.
  • On the uPVC window – face fixing bracket;

Use these instructions to measure for all types of blinds except for Replacement Louvres for Vertical Blinds.

How to Measure Blinds Outside Window RecessStep 1

Decide how much you wish to overlap the window recess at each side. We recommend at least 7.5cm at each side as well as the top and bottom so as to minimise as much external light as possible.

Step 2

Measure the width and height in three different positions ensuring you provide us with the smallest measurements. We will produce the blinds according to your exact measurements.

Please note for measuring Day & Night Roller / Roller / Venecia Blinds:

Roller Blinds MINI Fabric Width

This width from Step 1 includes the mechanism of the blind (at either end of the blind) and the actual width of the cloth is approximately 3 – 4 cm less, depending on the mechanism.

Please note for measuring Day & Night Vertical / Vertical Blinds Blinds:

Vertical Blind Louvre Headrail

The headrail is included in the height of the blind so the louvres will be shorter than the blind height.

Use these instructions to measure for all types of blinds except for Replacement Louvres for Vertical Blinds.

Is The Recess Deep Enough?

To install a blind on the inside of your window, you need to have a certain amount of depth of your window recess. If your window has a handle then you need to measure the available depth to the handle or to the most protruding element of your window.

Check out the below table of headrail depths for all our blinds to see if you have enough space.

If you don’t, you’ll have to consider fitting outside the recess instead.

How to Measure Blinds Inside Recess

Step 1

Measure the width (from wall to wall) and height (from top to the window still) in three different positions ensuring you provide us with the smallest measurements.

Step 2

You have to reduce your measurements from Step 1 to take into account the different mechanisms and components of the different blinds models. Reduce the width with 1 or 2 cm and the height with 1 or 2 cm.

For blackout fabrics, we recommend that you mount the blind on the outside of your window recess, so as much external light as possible is blocked out.

Please note for measuring Day & Night Vertical / Vertical Blinds Blinds:

Vertical Blind Louvre Headrail

The headrail is included in the height of the blind so the louvres will be shorter than the blind height.

Use these instructions to measure for Day & Night Roller, Roller, Venecia, Roman, Pleated and Venecian Blinds.

Furthermore, Day & Night Roller / Roller /  Venecia Blinds are suitable for mounting on the uPVC window only with “MINI” mechanism. “MAX” and “MAX BOX” mechanisms are suitable for mounting only on the inside of your window recess or on the outside of your window recess.

Please Note:

  • Keep in mind that most uPVC windows have different internal glazing beads (rounded, bevelled, etc.), which can increase the gap between the blinds and window frames and you might not get the maximum overlap and sunlight protection.
  • We will produce your blinds according to your exact measurements!

How to Measure Blinds Width Height on uPVC WINDOW

Step 1

Measure the width and height of the window with the internal glazing beads, as shown on the picture.

Step 2

Only for Day & Night Roller / Roller /  Venecia Blinds with “MINI” mechanism add +3cm to the width and +1cm to the height.

Step 2 does not apply to Roman / Pleated / Venecian Blinds.

Please note for measuring Day & Night Roller / Roller / Venecia Blinds “MINI” Mechanism:

Roller Blinds MINI Fabric Width

The width of the blind = “MINI” mechanism (3cm) + width of the fabric.

Please also note that “MINI” mechanism protrudes 6.5cm from the window and if you have an opening window and a wall next to it, you might not be able to open fully the window, because the mechanism would touch the wall.

How to Measure Vertical Blinds Single Louvers

Just measure the length of one of your current louvres (this is the Height).

Make sure the measurement is exact.

Side Guides

With our wire side guide system your blind is stabilised because the bottom rail is attached to a wire as the blind rolls up and down. This means that your blind is not as affected by breeze from open windows and remains stable in any position.

For turn and tilt windows, side guides ensure a perfect parallel fit at all times.
